Uit die DVD Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (1:29:19)

Ben Stein vra vir Dawkins wat hy dink die kans is dat daar nie ’n God is nie:

Dawkins: “It is hard to put a figure on it, but I would say 99% against, or something like that.” [Dit beteken dat daar steeds daar ’n 1% kans is dat daar ’n god is.]

Stein: “Why do you think it is 99% and not 97%?”

Dawkins: “You asked me to put a figure on it, but I am not comfortable to put a figure on it. I just think it is very unlikely.”

Stein: “But you couldn’t put a number on it. It could be 49%.”

Dawkins: “It is unlikely, quite far from 50%”

Stein: “How did it get created?”

Dawkins: “By a very slow process.”

Stein: “How did it start?”

Dawkins: “Nobody knows how it started…”

Stein: “What do you think is the possibility that intelligent design might turn out to be the answer to some issues in genetics or in evolution?”

Dawkins: “It could come about in the following way. It could be that in some earlier time, somewhere in the universe a civilisation evolved by probably some kind of Darwinian means to a very, very high level of technology and designed a form of life that they have seeded onto this planet. Now that is a possibility, an intriguing possibility. And I suppose it is possible that you might find evidence for that if you look at the details of biochemistry and molecular biology you might find a signature of some sort of designer.”

“And that designer could well be a higher intelligence from elsewhere in the universe. But that higher intelligence itself would have to come about by some ultimately explicable process. It could not have jumped into existence spontanously. That is the point.”
