Ashwin Afrikanus Thyssen was ’n teologiese student by die Universiteit van Stellenbosch.
Tydens sy studentejare het hy ’n prominente rol gespeel tydens die “Liefde is liefde” demonstrasie by die Teologiese Fakulteit Stellenbosch in Augustus 2018 waar hy onder andere die volgende gebed gedoen het:
“You have a preference for those who are marginalised… We call on you to do the work of justice, reconciliation and of unity. You call us to stand up for the oppressed. You call us to do the work for the least of these.”

Mx* Ashwin Afrikanus Thyssen is a Master of Theology student at Stellenbosch University. He is also an active member of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa.
Ashwin’s keen interest in theology is supplemented by a fascination with politics and philosophy. If anything, he is a bibliophile (lover of books); an oenophile (lover of wine); and a pognophile (lover beards).
Ashwin describes himself as ontologically Black, existentially Queer and spiritually Christian.

The faculty of Theology is very pleased to announce that Mx Ashwin Thyssen will be joining the Department of Systematic Theology and Ecclesiology from 1 July 2021.
Mx Thyssen has been appointed in the discipline of Ecclesiology with a focus on Church Law / Church Polity / Religion and Law.

“Bible Trouble was my first intro into queer theology. I was doing Old & New Testament 234 (Gender and Bible), with Julie. That course changed my life. One of the best decisions I made.”
