Join us as Prof. A Podelecka explores the rich spiritual traditions of sangomas (South Africa, parts of Botswana and Namibia), lethuelas (Lesotho), and certain ng’angas (Zambia). Despite the spread of Christianity in the region, these spiritual leaders continue to play essential roles in their communities offering healing, guidance, and cultural continuity.
Drawing from over 15 years of in-depth field research, Prof. Podelecka will share firsthand insights and perspectives from the healers themselves. She will also argue for their inclusion in global academic discussions on shamanism, comparing their practices with those of Siberian and other international traditions.
